When I think about RRM, I think of blessings. Surely the two ladies who started the ministry back in 1963 received a blessing as did the recipients of the services then and now.
The services today are varied and include Dental and Eye Clinics (staffed with professional volunteers), Thrift Store, Daycare and After School Program, Senior Program and Meals, Home Delivered Meals, and Food Pantry. Seasonal programs include: School Supplies, Christmas Toy Store and Summer Work Camp/Work Projects and others.
Those who serve in a paid capacity receive the blessing of knowing they help the needy in a tangible way. As a congregation, we receive the blessing of knowing our prayers and financial support help make the services and staff available.
Those who volunteer to help out in whatever tasks are presented receive the blessing of satisfying work, fellowship together, and appreciation for work done.
Once a month our little group travels to RRM and works for about 3 hours, usually in the food pantry. Along with our friends from Martin UMC, we sort and shelve donated food items, package for distribution various items; which could include a ton of sausage, deer meat, detergent, or fresh green beans. We prepare grocery bags for single or family recipients and help with their distribution, providing a smile, a kind word, and Jesus’s agape love.
As we leave and head toward our luncheon destination, we are tired but energized. The accomplishments of the day and the gratitude expressed by the staff is both humbling and rewarding. What a privilege it is to serve our Lord and others in this simple way.
If you want to receive a blessing like this please join us on the 4th Tuesday of each month. We leave the church parking lot at 8:30am and return about 2:00pm.
